Copy of Covid Road Trip
I leave tomorrow on a road trip to Galena. With the new restrictions in place, I reconsidered not going, but, I need to get out of town. In addition to the standard precautions - masks, social distancing, hand washing and sanitizing - I have come up with some additional strategies to put into place to insure my protection.
Have a kitchen -
I am staying in a suite property that had a kitchenette. This leaves me the option to either cook my own meals or pick up take out to heat up in the room.
Take a bar -
Bars are the place where social distancing may go out of the window as people drink. Even if tables are set up a safe distance apart, there is a tendency in an bar for people to mill around and walk to other tables to talk.
Don't make dinner reservations without seeing the set up -
All dining is supposed to be outdoors, but I want to see what that means at each restaurant, not only from the social distancing perspective, but from the temperature comfort level. Some restaurants have just put up unheated tents. I don't want to have a meal in 30 degree weather wrapped in layers.
Travel during the week -
Crowds will be lighter and shopping easier
Spend time in the great outdoors -
Parks, forest preserves, hiking areas and scenic overlooks allow for the ultimate in social distancing. They are also mostly free or inexpensive.
And, Savor the uniqueness of a trip during this time -
Just revel in the freedom of getting away from home and sharing time with nature and your traveling companion.
Stay safe and well
